HOSHIARPUR: A day after TOI did a spot check on the leopard's death near Upper Bahera village of the district on Sunday, about 45 km from here, and debunked the official theory of the feline dying after getting trapped in a 'crop fencing', wildlife department registered a case of poaching.
A department official moved an application with Hariana police, terming it to be a case of poaching.Hariana SHO Harleen Kumar confirmed over phone on Thursday that on the complaint of wildlife inspector Sunil Kumar, a case under sections 9, 39, 51 of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, was registered against accused Baldev Singh of Bahera.
Teams had been sent to apprehend the accused, the SHO added.
